The Day Stretch is still running strong with classic summer action. Caddis and PMDs dominate, with prime dry fly windows early and late in the day. X-Caddis, Foam Body Caddis, and the new Center Stage Caddis are top dry patterns right now, with Rusty Spinners picking up fish during that last light push.
Subsurface is where the real numbers come from mid-day. Jig PMD Nymphs, Walt’s Worms, Berry’s PCP, and—believe it or not—the Blue Lightning Bug are all producing. And yes, the Pink Track Suit has been showing up in guide boxes for good reason—it’s that time of year when trout aren’t picky if it looks buggy and moves naturally. Dry-dropper rigs with a Chubby on top and a Berry’s PCP or Blue Lightning Bug below are keeping rods bent from riffles to tailouts.
When the sun is high, work shade lines, mid-river buckets, or fish faster seams with a tight-line approach. If fish stop looking up, a soft-hackle swing or lightly stripped leech can still get aggressive eats. This week is shaping up to be a fun one—variety is the name of the game on the Lower D right now.
