The Crooked is holding steady with classic mid-summer conditions. Water is clear, flows are stable, and fish are feeding throughout the day. Nymphing continues to be the go-to method, especially in the midday heat. PMD nymphs, Zebra Midges (olive, red, or black), and Flashback Pheasant Tails are all producing consistently, especially in seams, riffles, and deeper slots.
Dry-dropper setups are still a great way to cover water—small Chubbies paired with a Zebra Midge or PMD nymph below are moving fish. Caddis activity is strong in the afternoons and evenings, bringing rising fish into shaded seams and slower water. Evenings have been the best window for dry fly action lately, with fish keyed in on caddis adults and small PMD emergers.
If things slow down on top, swinging soft hackles or a small leech through the deeper buckets is still turning up some of the better fish. Overall, it’s been steady, reliable Crooked River fishing—simple flies, clean drifts, and solid numbers if you work through it patiently.
