The Upper D continues to fish well as we move deeper into July. Mosquito pressure is still heavy, so show up prepared with repellent or a head net if you’re fishing near meadow sections or timber. PMDs and Caddis are steady surface options, especially in the afternoons and evenings, but much of the action right now is happening subsurface.

Euro and indicator rigs are both producing solid numbers. Golden Stone nymphs, mini jig leeches, Rainbow Warriors, Green Copper Johns (easily our fly of the week right now), Walt’s Worms, and Perdigons are all moving fish consistently. Focus on seams, undercut banks, and anywhere the current slows just enough to let fish post up. Green Copper Johns have been a standout lately—fish are definitely showing a preference for that added flash and profile, especially on sunnier days.

Terrestrials like ants and beetles are also worth working along grassy banks and slow edges, especially in meadow stretches. And if you’re looking for bigger fish, small streamers like Sculpzillas stripped through structure are still producing.

Expect cooler mornings and hot afternoons through the week. Get on it early or plan for those evening windows when fish are most active and the bugs are thickest.
