Recent storms have raised Lake Isabella to approximately 33% of capacity. The winter bass bite has slowed slightly, but anglers are still finding quality fish on jigs, worms, and deep-diving crankbaits, with productive areas including Engineer Point, Rocky Point, and Piney Point. Most bass are being caught from 25 to 35 feet of water, with water temperatures ranging from 50 to 56 degrees. Trout remain present in fair numbers, with shore anglers finding success using garlic-scented baits, spinners, Mice Tails, and worms. Crappie are still being found in deeper water, though anglers are having to work a bit harder for bites. One reliable source continues to land solid stringers of slab crappie using live shiners and crappie jigs, with additional fish coming from marina areas on small shiners, mini jigs, and Indian crickets. Catfish action remains steady throughout the lake, with cut mackerel, stink baits, and SSS bait all producing fish, particularly around Piney Point.
