Current Water Conditions

The Feather River is feeling the full effects of summer—flows are dropping and water temps are creeping into the mid-to-high 60s, especially mid-day. Fishing pressure and warm water through town has pushed most of the action to the stretches near Cromberg and Sloat where the river is a bit cooler and more oxygenated. Mornings and evenings are key, especially when hatches are most active.

Water Temperatures

Water temperatures are averaging in the mid-60s.

Hatches

Caddisflies and Mayflies are appearing sporadically throughout the day. With the warmer weather, hatches are minimal, but expect rising fish in the mornings and evenings.

Effective Tactics

Dry fly action has been solid with black elk hair caddis, olive stimulators, and classic mosquito patterns. Nymphing remains productive through the pocket water and tops of deeper pools using balanced leeches in black, rust, or olive. Spin anglers should focus on the same water with Panther Martins or Rooster Tails—best colors right now are black/red, yellow/red, and brown. Think faster water, shaded stretches, and stealth.
