Current Water Conditions

On the Little Truckee River, flows remain steady at about 158 CFS between Stampede and Boca. The river is running clear and cold, offering excellent sight-fishing opportunities. Midday sun makes the fish a bit more selective, so stealth and precision are essential.

Water Temperatures

Thanks to the tailwater release from Stampede, the river holds in the low 50s°F throughout the day. These stable temps keep insect life healthy and fish feeding steadily.

Hatches

Pale Morning Duns remain the dominant hatch, with Blue-Winged Olives, Green Drakes, and Midges still showing up—especially on overcast days. Fish are also still feeding on terrestrials like ants and beetles near grassy banks.

Effective Tactics

Tightline nymphing remains the go-to method in faster seams and riffles. Subtle flies like Juju Baetis, Zebra Midges, and Pheasant Tails are productive. For dry fly anglers, use long 13-foot leaders and light tippet (5x–6x) for delicate presentations in the flats. Soft hackles and small streamers swung near dusk have been effective on the deeper edges.

Catch Report

Steady action continues with 14–18” rainbows and browns being caught daily. Patient anglers are landing browns over 20” on dries and soft presentations in low-light conditions.
