We are happy to see flows remain stable out here again this week, with 150 CFS still coming out of Stampede. As you may expect, this has made for some very good fishing on this tricky tailwater yet again this week.

A fair dry fly hatch most days and awesome conditions for euro nymphing between hatches have been the techniques of choice. The PMDs remain the dominant bug, but there’s also a smattering of baetis, midges and caddis in the evening.

We recommend to focus on all life stages of the PMD for your highest odds of putting fish in the net. This includes the nymph, the emerger, the adult, and the spinner. Fallbacks on this river are imitations or midge larvae, BWO nymphs and worms. Because this is a tailwater, they are much more important on the LT this time of year than they would be on the main river. For this same reason, the water temps will remain good all day, and the fish will be actively feeding from sun up to sun down.

The time in which you get out here will be less important, unless it’s the dry fly bite you’re after, as the PMD emergence happens mid-day. We recommend looking to fish more in the early morning or late evening if you wish to avoid the crowds. With how selective these fish can be, using an accurate fly selection and 6x tippet, paired with a good presentation will be vital for consistent success out here.
