Duck Fork Reservoir - Ferron, Utah

Lake Information

Fish Species: Tiger Trout, Colorado River Cutthroat Trout
Duck Fork Reservoir, located high in Utah’s Manti-La Sal National Forest, is a regulated trophy fishery known for its impressive tiger trout and native Colorado River cutthroat trout. At nearly 10,000 feet in elevation, this alpine lake offers a backcountry fishing experience with excellent rewards for those who make the effort.

The reservoir is managed under special regulations: only artificial flies and lures are allowed, and all trout must be released immediately. These rules have fostered a robust fishery where trout regularly exceed 20 inches. Anglers find success with streamers, woolly buggers, or spinners fished near structure, drop-offs, and deep ledges.

Access is seasonal—generally late June to early fall—and best reached via high-clearance vehicles. Float tubes or pontoons are strongly recommended, as the shoreline is limited and much of the best fishing lies offshore.

There are no developed facilities, so visitors must be self-sufficient and prepared for high-altitude weather conditions. While remote, the setting is stunning, with towering peaks and alpine meadows enhancing the angling experience.

Duck Fork is ideal for experienced anglers seeking a challenge in a wilderness setting. Be sure to review the Utah Fishing Guidebook for specific restrictions to help preserve this exceptional fishery for future generations.
