Current Water Conditions

Spring conditions on the Truckee River are in full swing. With flows measuring 350 CFS out of Tahoe City, 600 CFS through town of Truckee, 530 CFS through the Glenshire area, and 1300 CFS near Farad. Water clarity has improved since recent rain events and wading conditions are good, with the exception of a few stretches being high in flows. Anglers can expect good conditions throughout the entire day.

Water Temperatures

Water temperatures are steady in the upper 40s°F and reaching the mid 50s°F by mid-afternoon.

Hatches

Anglers can expect a few hatches of caddis and mayflies throughout the day.

Effective Tactics

Euro nymphing and fishing with streamers have been the most effective during this time. Using 5x leaders along with a 9 foot 5 weight rod for streamers early or late in the day is producing results. For anglers euro nymphing, use longer leaders and a 10 foot 4 weight rod to get down in the faster runs. Focus on upstream drifts for a more natural presentation. Fishing deep pockets behind boulders and structures can also catch more bites.

Catch Report

Glenshire, through the town of Truckee, and in the upper parts of the river near Tahoe City seem to be producing the most bites. Fish range in size right now, but some early season big browns are out there.
