Fishing forecast (September through November): Trout stocking typically resumes in late September when water temperatures are cooler and the water quality (pH and dissolved oxygen levels) has improved. Fall trout stocking efforts generally continue throughout October and end in late November. Trout fishing becomes good to great during these cooler fall months. In September, the surface water temperature is much warmer than the rest of the water column, which drives the trout toward the bottom. As we move into October and November, the surface temperature cools and, eventually, the temperature becomes consistent throughout the water column. When this happens, trout begin actively feeding throughout the entire water column and at the surface in an effort to bulk up before winter. Lures (such as inline spinners, casting spoons and minnow-imitation baits), jigs (such as marabou or hair jigs and tube jigs), flies (such as drys, dry-dropper rigs, nymphs under an indicator and woolly buggers), nightcrawlers and trout dough baits can be very effective.
