Paul Clouse, Al Hurwitz, and Vardy Shtein trolled Lake Del Valle on 7/31/25, targeting Smallmouth Bass. We caught six Smallies, the largest around 1.25 pounds (see attached photos). The fish were caught in different sections of the lake on 1/4 oz feathered inline spinners with scent applied. The Smallmouths were caught 16-21 feet below the surface in 20-30 foot water columns. All the fish fought hard, especially at the side of the boat, and all were released in excellent condition. Generally speaking, the Bass were located over underwater structure such as rock, grass, and wood.
It was a beautiful day with excellent conditions, including wind speed, air temperature, water clarity and water surface temperature (74-75 degrees).
We’ll be back soon, and as always appreciate all the help from the Del Valle staff in getting us on and off the lake.
With best regards,
Paul Clouse, Lafayette
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
Vardy Shtein, Mountain View
