Plenty of fish in the river

Spring Chinook fishing has been slow in the Trask. There are plenty of fish in the river, but most have been holding for a while and are "off the bite". That said, fishing in the bay has been surprisingly good for this late in the season so there should still be some fresh fish on the way. The Trask from 200 feet above to 900 feet below Gold Creek at Trask Hatchery (which includes the "hatchery hole") is closed to angling July 16 – October 15. The Salmon/Steelhead Bobber Fishing Rule went into effect May 1st from the marker at Loren's drift up to Cedar Creek boat slide (See page 18 of the sport fishing regulations booklet for details).
Trout season opened in the streams on May 22nd and there are resident coastal cutthroat trout throughout the Trask basin, including the forks and sea-run cutthroat should be showing up. Many areas have bait restrictions in place so check the regulations for those and open areas before heading out.
