As of late April 2025, Gold Lake near Portola, CA, remains inaccessible due to seasonal road closures at the staging area, limiting fishing opportunities. The lake is typically open for fishing from May through November, offering anglers chances to catch rainbow and brown trout. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife plans to stock Gold Lake with catchable rainbow trout and sub-catchable brown trout during this period.
