Blacksmith Fork River

Fishing forecast (September through November): The river has an abundant population of brown trout that average 11 inches in length. Brown trout numbers have become very dense in other rivers in Utah, affecting the size and condition of the fish population in those waters. We encourage anglers to harvest their limit of brown trout in Blacksmith Fork River to allow the remaining fish to grow to a larger size. Hopper and caddis patterns become a favorite this time of year. There are a variety of each to choose from, but foam hoppers with a yellow or tan belly can draw vicious hits in the fall. A dropper fly below a foam hopper is usually a great addition and will take a few fish that are hesitant to hit the hopper. Dropper flies can also be a caddis larvae/emerger pattern, a small mayfly or a stonefly. Spinners such as Blue Fox and Panther Martin are killer in the fall. Curly tail jigs in various colors are another good option for those using spinning gear. Additionally, bait is allowed on this stream, and no self-respecting brown trout can turn down a nightcrawler! Salmon eggs in orange color might be a good second bait to use.
