The Upper Deschutes continues to provide dependable summer fishing, with cool water temperatures keeping trout active despite the warm weather. Anglers covering high-percentage water thoroughly are finding consistent action. The best fishing has continued to come during the morning and evening hours, while the middle of the day has rewarded anglers who focus on deeper structure.

Caddis remain the primary hatch while PMDs continue to show during the afternoon, and terrestrials are becoming increasingly important as summer progresses. Ants, beetles, and the occasional hopper are producing fish along grassy banks and overhanging vegetation, particularly on breezy afternoons when insects are being blown into the water.

Subsurface fishing remains the most productive approach between hatch windows. Olive Perdigons, Jig Pheasant Tails, Hare's Ears, caddis pupa, and Golden Stone nymphs continue to produce fish when drifted naturally through deeper runs and structure. Anglers running streamers have been finding success with compact olive streamers through undercut banks, woody cover, and deeper pools during low-light periods.
