Illipah Reservoir is ~80% ice covered with only a few small areas of open water. There is opaque, weak ice on the lake and all ice should be considered unsafe at this time. Shoreline fishing is available at the old dam and just north of the old dam. A total of 5,715 rainbow trout, averaging 8.6 inches was stocked. Fall shoreline fishing was good with anglers easily catching 4 to 5 fish per hour. Recent angler contacts revealed rainbow trout in the 10-to-14 inch range being caught. A few brown trout have been contacted, normally between 6 and 10 inches, however, one angler recently caught a nice 18-inch brown trout. Brown trout are beginning to spawn, they may not be contacted as frequently until the spawn is over. A total of 4,128 rainbow trout averaging 9.6 inches have been stocked so far this year. Anglers will do well with nightcrawlers, PowerBait, and spinners.
