Hiking
This is the season that hikers wait for all year:
Weather that's not too hot and not too cold.
All trails clear of snow.
Stream crossings a little less treacherous.
Aspen trees and low shrubs putting on a show.
Fewer people, more wildlife.
The trails in Bishop Creek Canyon are all at peak accessibility and awe-inspiring beauty. Pick your favorite, because we can't choose for you. They're all good.
Fishing
The fishing at South Lake has been truly excellent all season, and it's not slowing down now. The lake is low, but the fish are hungry.
The inlets are still running, albeit at lower flows. The back of the lake remains a favorite spot, for good reason. Anglers are pulling fish out using PowerBait, Kastmasters, Sierra Slammers, mice tails, and good old worms.
If you are boating, please use caution as the underwater obstacles change daily as the water levels drop. The public boat ramp is now closed, but South Lake Boat Rentals are still available!
Trolling has been successful with Rapalas, Thomas Bouyants, and spinners.
If you're hitting the streams, there are lots of nice fish to go after! PowerBait and worms are the go-to.
The bottom line? Get a line in the water however you can!
