Del Valle Lake - Livermore, CA (Alameda County)

Paul Clouse and Al Hurwitz trolled all sections of Lake Del Valle on 9/18/25. We caught 11 fish, including 1 Striped Bass, 8 Smallmouth Bass, and 2 Bluegills (see attached photos). Paul had a particularly good day, catching a 3-pound Striper, a 2-pound Smallmouth, and a 1.2 pound Bluegill. The fish were caught in both the upper and lower portions of the lake, a number in Heron Bay, but some also around Swallow Bay and along the western shore. All fish were released. We used 1/4-3/8 oz. in-line spinners made by Panther Martin, RoxStars, and Joe’s Flies, all trolled between 21-28 feet below the surface in 30-40 foot water columns. Scent was applied to all the lures. Trolling speed was 2.0-2.4 mph. The fish are running somewhat deeper now as the season progresses, and are a bit more offshore, gravitating to the more northern sections of the lake.
It was a beautiful day, with an overcast sky and temperatures in the upper 70’s to low 80’s. The water remains clear, with a bit of surface pollen. Surface water temperature is 73-76 degrees.
Once again, we thank the office and dock staff for all their excellent help.
See you soon.
All the best,
Paul Clouse, Lafayette
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
