Stocking: The lake was stocked with 1,000 pounds of catfish this week. We’re stocking another 1,000 pounds of catfish the week of September 29th. So far, 6,500 pounds of catfish have been stocked this season. We’ll continue to stock catfish through October.

What’s the Catch? Drop shot rigs with plastic worms off Eagle Point have been producing bass, especially around the deeper coves. Early morning and late afternoon have been the best windows, with bass moving up shallow to feed before heading back to deeper water mid-day. For bass, try switching to a natural-colored finesse worm if the bite slows.

Catfish are still biting strong, with limits being caught on cut mackerel and chicken liver. Productive spots include the buoy line near the tower and the deeper waters along the Half Moon Cove drop-offs. Fish are holding 5–8 feet off the bottom, so adjust your rig accordingly. Night fishing sessions have been particularly successful with larger fish moving in closer to shore. For catfish, a simple sliding sinker rig with fresh bait is hard to beat—make sure you give the scent time to travel.

Conditions: The current water temperature is 80 degrees at the surface. The aerator has been turned on, so the dissolved oxygen content is well mixed. See below for information regarding lake elevation. The sun is rising at 6:30 a.m. and setting at 6:59 p.m. The next new moon will be September 21st. 

Starting this August, Helix Water District will temporarily lower the water level at Lake Jennings by approximately 15 feet. This draw down will allow for important construction work on the lake’s new aeration system, a key part of preparing for the arrival of purified water from the East County Advanced Water Purification Program (East County AWP).
