We’ve got some great river news to share! Local angler Dawn Leclerc landed a beautiful smallmouth bass while fishing from a dock along the river. She was using a swimbait and caught a 3.92-pound, 24 1/4-inch smallmouth. I did remind her that these fish are typically catch-and-release, but they’re also known to be great eating.

Along the shores of the Colorado River below Davis Dam, we’ve been seeing a few smallmouth bass around. Anglers have been having good success targeting them using a variety of lures. Nightcrawlers can work, but plastics—especially Z-Man tubes—are producing the best results.

We’re also enjoying some excellent striper action, with several large stripers being landed from shore. Due to fluctuating water levels, boat access has been a bit limited, but shore fishing has been very productive. The Nature Center and Rotary Park areas are both producing nice fish, and the area near the casinos is fishing well too.

Up on Lake Mohave, trolling has been the key to hooking some of the larger stripers, while anchovies are working well in the coves for smaller fish.

Upcoming Event: Fish with a First Responder

All permits and permissions are now in place for our upcoming Fish with a First Responder event! We’re planning to have a martial arts demo, and we’re working on securing a K-9 demonstration as well. There will be booths for visitors to explore, and we hope to have a few food trucks on site. This event is a great opportunity to expose our youth to the sport of fishing—and it's open to both locals and visitors alike.
