This week, our local high school’s fishing club was out on the water! Led by mentor Gary Regan, the program takes groups of local kids and adults fishing at various spots along the shores of the Colorado River—completely free of charge. It’s a great opportunity for beginner anglers to learn local fishing techniques.

On this outing, the group landed three stripers and had a few more hookups that unfortunately didn’t make it to shore. The fishing trip took place at the Rotary Park area, and overall, they did pretty well.

This week’s group included:
Jason Barela, AJ King, JP King, Donovan Bery, George Lockwood, Eve Lockwood, Manny Varges, William Varges, Luis Martinez, Miguel Martinez, Jaci James, Mani Rodriques—with Noel King baiting hooks, Jagi Burela keeping things organized, and of course, Gary Regan at the helm.

Elsewhere, I’m hearing reports of striper activity in the Community Park area, near Casino Row, and around the Nature Center. Up on Lake Mohave, anglers are having good luck trolling with various lures, and anchovies are still producing a few stripers in the 3- to 6-pound range.

Not much word from the marsh yet, but we’re hopeful for updates soon. The largemouth bass bite should be picking up, along with a few catfish. The marsh is a great area for both species.
