Fishing has been fair to good on all sections of the river depending on the conditions. We are still seeing some good midge hatches on some days. On cloudy days we are still seeing a few bwo’s, but this hatch is about over until the fall. Cicadas and some other terrestrial insects are coming out, so there is some good dry fly fishing to be had. However, anglers that are versatile in their approach will be most effective. Nymphing can be productive in the right areas. Try nymphing traditional spring spots like the drop offs below the rapids and riffles, and the main seams. On the rainy days the fishing can also be good with streamers.
Go-To Flies:
Midge larva and pupa patterns in lighter colors-grey and white. (Sz. 18-22) Bwo nymphs/emergers and duns/cripples (sz. 18) Aquatic worms in red and brown colors. Eggs in peach/pink/cheese colors. Sow bugs and scuds in grey and olive (sz. 12-18) Cicadas black (sz. 6-12) Ants black and brown (sz.12-16) Crickets (sz. 10-14) Beetles in black and brown (sz. 8-12) Streamers- articulated and non in black and brown colors.
